Lymphoma is a general term for localized malignancies that develop in the lymphatic or reticuloendothelial system. Its cells are similar to lymphocytes, plasma cells or histiocytes. - Hodgkin's disease, discovered by Thomas Hodgkin in 1832, is one type of lymphoma.
- All other lymphomas are grouped together and are called non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
PrevalenceAccording to the U.S. National Institutes of Health, lymphomas account for about five percent of all cases of cancer in the United States, and Hodgkin's disease in particular accounts for less than one percent of all cases of cancer in the United States.
