Thyroid Treatment - A Variety of Remedies For the Various Kinds of Thyroid Problems

Every person has his own approaches for healthier living. For thyroid conditions, you have to give an eye to the different kinds you have. Thyroid treatments are based on the different criteria pertaining to the disease.

Hypothyroidism Treatments

The other option that you can choose is the combination of T3 and T4 plus desiccated thyroid preparation. Take note that all L-thyroxine preparations have similar active ingredients but they have different fillers and quality control.

Hyperthyroidism Treatments

This thyroid condition is being remedied by decreasing the excessive hormonal levels that is acquired through many factors. The three different methods for treatment could also come from

• Anti-thyroid drugs. Anti-thyroid drugs may be given to you in order to normalize your thyroid levels and get rid of the symptoms that are associated with hyperthyroidism. The most common anti-thyroid drugs that can be used are methimazole and propylthioucaril.
• Ablation. This is done through radioactive iodine.
• Surgery. This involves removal of all the parts of your thyroid which is affected by this condition.

Thyroid Cancer Treatments

This type of thyroid problem is the most serious among all other kinds of thyroid diseases. There are four types of thyroid cancer namely papillary, follicular, medullary, and anaplasia. The treatments for these cancers will depend to its type and the severity of the condition.

• Surgery. This involves removal of cancer cells.
• Lymph node dissection. This is another method that you can choose to treat your thyroid cancer. This is often done during thyroid surgery to assess how far your thyroid cancer has affected your system.
• Lobectomy. This is a process in which one part of your thyroid will be removed.

Other thyroid treatments

For autoimmune thyroid disease, treatment can be done by getting rid of the presence of the antibodies in your system. Goiter, on the other hand is being treated by using hormone supplements in order to slow down or shrink the growth of the thyroid nodules. If it is already over its size, you may be subjected to radioactive iodine surgery.

There are so many options that you can choose in order to treat your problems. The most important thing you have to remember is to go through proper diagnosis. This will make the medication match your thyroid condition appropriately.

Low Iodine diet before Radio Iodine treatment for thyroid cancers?

I am just starting a low Iodine diet for 2 weeks (less tan 65 micrograms) before I have a radioactive Iodine treatment for Thyroid cancer. I was wondering if there is anyone who has any menu ideas, or meal ideas for me, or have been on the same diet? I have a few basic ones, but you can only eat the same thing so many times!

I went through the same thing last November - during Thanksgiving! It didn't seem like it would be that difficult but once you start you realize just how much you can't eat.

For breakfast I ate oatmeal with dried fruit and nuts (unsalted). I also had a few egg white omelets.

I made a big pot of beef stew (see link below for recipe) so I had that for many many dinners. I also had pasta with homemade sauce. If you seach you can find one brand of canned tomatos that doesn't have salt.

For dessert I made wacky cake (recipe is also below) - it's a chocolate cake that uses cocoa powder so it's ok.
